Dog attack

This is a true story.

When I was born, in the year of the dog, my mother bought a puppy. That dog was my constant companion. You could say I have a certain empathy with them.

When I was eight years old I was walking home from school, past a car wrecking yard. there was a big Dog sitting on the inside of the wire fence, I didn't see him until I was right on top of him, and when I did, i jumped back in shock. I saw the dog jump up and start running for the open gate further on. I thought "Oh Ohh, here we go .."

I saw it run through the gate, turn, and run straight at me - it looked very mean, like it wanted to kill me. I braced myself and raised my school case up in front of my chest.

The dog came at me, jumped, and went for my face. It's front paws landing on my school case. At the same instant, I pushed my case away, pushing the dog backwards, away from me. His teeth cut above my eyebrow, and into my lip, but nowhere as bad as it could have been. The dog landed on the ground and looked at me. I gave it a quizzical look, like to say - "Why did you do that ?". The dog looked at me for a another moment, then turned away and walked back into the wrecking yard.

That might sound impressive, of how I stared down a vicous guard dog when I was eight. But there's a simple thing, That dog saw fear when I jumped back in shock, that triggered the attack. After it jumped me, it saw not fear, just curiosity on my face, and that cancelled the aggression. Simple. Remember that if you're ever attacked. It may possibly work for you.
